Lambdoughty Wind Farm
The project has been named Lambdoughty Wind Farm due to the location close to Lambdoughty Farm, one of the farms in the consortium of landowners that Infinergy is working with. One of the issues often raised about wind farm development is the lack of joined-up thinking, so in the case of Lambdoughty there are at least 12 local landowners in the consortium to avoid a piecemeal approach.
We are looking to develop a wind farm:
- With over 50 megawatts (MW) of electricity output
- That, if we calculate with 50MW, would serve approximately 27,000 households annually*
- With turbines which would have a hub height of up to 80 metres and a maximum blade tip height of up to 125 metres
- That is located within a preferred area for wind farms identified within the Ayrshire Joint Structure Plan
* assuming a 30% capacity factor and based on an average annual domestic electricity consumption of 4700 kWh (kilowatt hours)
Wind speeds in South Ayrshire are excellent for wind energy developments. The Scottish Government supports wind farm development within preferred areas in order to:
- Protect highly sensitive areas
- Increase development and income from the renewable energy industry
- Meet set targets: Scotland now generates around 11% of its electricity from renewable sources, and the Scottish Government has set a target of 50% by 2020.
