Site Development
The Lambdoughty Wind Farm proposal is in the early stages of development. Nothing will be built until all the necessary studies have been undertaken and planning permission has been granted.
The current position is as follows:
- Since 2006 Infinergy have been assessing the suitability of the site in terms of:
- Technical considerations such as wind speeds and access
- Environmental issues such as landscape, ecology and noise
- Local community issues such as the impact on local residents, businesses and tourism
- In July 2008, a temporary anemometer (wind measurement device) was installed on the site to measure wind speeds, directions, air density, temperature and turbulence at various heights. For more information on the device that was used click here
- Background noise measurements were carried out in July 2008 at the nearest residential properties to establish baseline background noise. These measurements are required as part of our Environmental Impact Assessment and are considered good practice in the industry. We predict the future noise level by adding the existing background noise level to the noise level from the wind turbines. The future noise levels have to meet legal limits.
Looking ahead the next steps are:
- Finalizing the turbine positions and designing other infrastructure such as roads, substation, grid connection etc.
- The surveys for the Environmental Impact Assessment will continue during the summer of 2008
- As part of Infinergy's consultation programme we will be talking to all affected local residents, groups and community councils, plus we will be holding a public exhibition in October 2008. These exhibitions are intended to provide the opportunity for local people to learn more about the proposed wind farm, to ask questions, and to meet key members of the project team. Infinergy staff will be on hand to answer any questions on the proposal, wind energy and climate change and to address any other issues. Equally importantly the exhibitions provide the opportunity for Infinergy to receive comments from local people before finalising their plans.
- End of 2008 the final planning application and the Environmental Statement will hopefully be submitted to the Scottish Government. South Ayrshire Council will also have an opportunity to comment on the application as part of the planning process.
